Cenobites - No Paradise for the Damned

Disco mais recente dos rapazes de Rotterdam, uma das principais bandas da cena psycho atual. De volta à formação com duas guitarras, esse disco é melhor produzido que os anteriores, mas não se deixem enganar : O som dos caras continua violento, aquela mistúrica única de psycho, street punk e thrash /speed metal que tornou a banda famosa. Aliás, corrijam-me se eu estiver errado, mas o vocal de Dimitri Hauck lembra cada vez mais o de James Hettfield no começo do Metallica (quando a banda ainda valia alguma coisa). Destaque pra TODAS as faixas, se eu fosse dar uma nota, esse disco levaria 10 em 10 FÁCIL.

Newest album by the boys from Rotterdam, one of the main bands of the actual psycho. Back to their double guitar formation, this album is better produced than the others, but don't be fooled : Their sound still has the same violence as always, that mixture of psycho, street punk and thrash / speed metal that made them famous. By the way, correct me if I'm wrong, but Dimitri Hauck's vocals are getting more and more similar to James Hettfield in the early days of Metallica, when the band was still worth something. Highlights go to EVERY track, if I had to rate it, I'd give it 10 out of 10 EASILY.

The Fiends - Gravedigger

Outra banda de Greg Johnson, vocalista do Worst, os Fiends começaram em 1993 em Vancouver, Canada, o som dos Fiends não é muito diferente do Worst em si, o que não é DE FORMA ALGUMA uma coisa ruim, muito pelo contrário. Esse disco foi lançado em 1998 e é de uma demência rara, mesmo pros dias de hoje, fato que se pode constatar nas faixas hiper-saturadas como No Good, o cover de Writing on the Wall dos Five Canadians, ainda melhor e mais psicótica que a versão anterior gravada por Johnson, com o Worst. A banda ainda existe, participou recentemente do segundo volume do tributo aos Fuzztones, tocando a clássica Romilar D, além de estar produzindo um novo LP, aparentemente sem previsão de lançamento.

The other band by the Worst's singer, Greg Johnson, the Fiends began their activities in 1993, based in Vancouver, Canada. Their sound isn't too far from the Worst itself, what ISN'T ANYTHINGN EAR BAD, actually, quite the oposite. This album was released in 1998 and has high levels of insanity, even by these days standards, a fact that can be certified in ultra-saturated tracks like No Good or the Five Canadians' cover of Writing on the Wall, even better and more psychotic than the version recorded by Johnson with the Worst. The band still exists, has participated on the Fuzztones' tribute second volume, playing the classic Romilar D, besides the production of a new LP, apparently without any release date so far.

The Worst - The Worst

Depois de dias de problemas pra acessar o blogger, finalmente eu volto pra fechar o ano direitinho. Formados no fim dos anos 80/começo dos 90 em Vancouver, Canada, o som dos caras é bem legal, algo entre o purismo dos primeiros do Chesterfield Kings e a crueza do The Fiends (inclusive, o vocalista dessa banda também canta nos Fiends). Os compositores da banda eram excelentes, como se percebe em faixas como Get That Thing, Lucky Guy e Telling you True. Pelo que eu vi, lançaram uma demo antes desse disco, alguns EPs, um último LP e acabaram, mas qualquer informação extra na banda seria muito bem vinda.

After days of trouble on acessing blogger, finally I come back to close the year properly. Formed somewhere between the late 80s / early 90s in Vancouver, Canada, the sound of these guys is very cool, something between the purism of early Chesterfield Kings and the Fiends' rawness (actually, their singer was also the Fiends'). The band has good songwriters, as seen in tracks like Get That Thing, Lucky Girl and Telling You True. As far as I'm concerned, they released a demo before that album, a few EPs, a last LP and broke up, but any extra info on the band would be very welcome.

Diretamente da Holanda, The 1-2-5. Formados em 1992, a banda participou de algumas coletâneas (incluindo o Illegitimate Spawn, tributo aos Fuzztones). Lançaram algumas demos, esse LP em 97 e acabaram em 2008. 3 dos 4 integrantes formaram a banda Thee Unexplained, que (ainda) não ouvi, mas se for pelo menos metade da loucura do 125, já é o suficiente pra mercer a audição. Destaque pra Dirty old Man (at the age of 16), uma das melhors músicas do Them, I'm Going Away Now, Won't you Listen e Nothing Can hurt Me

Hailing from the netherlands, the 1-2-5. Formed in 1992, the band appeared in a few comps (including Illegitimate Spawn, a Tribute to the Fuzztones). Coletânea lançada em 1993 pela Estrus (selo lendário, de propriedade dos membros da banda) com singles e lados b. O material desse álbum é um um pouco mais tosco que os discos de estúdio, mas ainda vale muito a pena, especialmente pelo cover de uma das músicas do mestre Childish que eu mais curto, Lie Detector, e pelas originais, como Burning Bush e Watch Outside.

This album's material is rawer than the studio albums, but the download is still worth, specially for the cover of one of my favourite B. The Squares - Tribute to the Medway Scene

Não achei muita informação sobre a banda, sei que eles são franceses, seguidores fiéis de Billy 'Deus' Childish e outras bandas de Medway (dá pra perceber pelo nome, hurr durr durr), chegando a lançar discos pela Hangman Records (gravadora do Childish). Não sei quando a banda acabou também, sei que o baterista, Ollie Dollot, chegou a tocar bateria pros Headcoats por um tempo e que eles apareceram em algumas coletâneas francesas do fim dos anos 80/começo dos 90. Altamente recomendável (e relativamente desconhecido, se isso significa alguma coisa pra você).

I haven't found too many info about the band, though I know they're french, loyal followers of Billy 'God' Childish and other Medway delta bands (that's kinda obvious, just look at the album's title hurr durr durr). They even released some stuff through Hangman Records (Childish's old label). I don't know when they started or broke up, but I know that Ollie Dollot (the drummer) went to play with thee Headcoats for some time and that they appeared in a few french comps from the early 80s/late 90s. Extremely recommendable (and kinda unknown, if that means something to you)

The Atomic Fireballs - Torch This Place

"The Atomic Fireballs" é uma banda de swing americana (Detroit, Michigan) formada em 1996.
Sua discografia é composta por dois álbums apenas, o independente Birth of Swerve e este pela Atlantic Records.
Como o primeiro tem basicamente as mesmas musicas (apesar de gravações diferentes) e a qualidade deste é consideravelmente melhor, postei o melhor.
O que mais me chama atenção na banda é o vocal (Bunkley) com uma voz meio rouca, bem forte e original.
Destaque para a primeira faixa (The Man With the Hex) que fez parte da trilha sonora de varios filmes entre 2000 e 2006.

Thee Headcoatees - Punk girls

As Headcoatees são um grupo de garotas montado pelo senhor Billy Childish, composto por Kyra LaRubia, Holly Golightly, Bongo Debbie e Miss Ludella Black. A 'banda de apoio' são os próprios Headcoats e o repertório é composto basicamente de belas canções do tio Billy e vários covers dos anos 50 e 60 (e um cover de Teenage Kicks dos Undertones, excelente). Destaque pra Don't Wanna hold your Hand, Billy B. Childish, Punk Girl e Zig-Zag.
