Nova obra do mestre John Hamper, o rei do Medway Beat. Acompanhado dos Musicians of the British Empire e de Neil Palmer do Fire Dept, (mais uma) banda excelente da cena de Medway. Apesar do som relativamente diferente dos trabalhos anteriores, ainda contamos com a crueza do garage que só a delta do Medway é capaz de oferecer. Destaque pra selvagem Like Poets Often Do, com forte influência do começo do Who, Grandfathery e sua letra maravilhosa (aliás, as letras são um forte desse álbum, como o nome da banda sugere) e as duas últimas, A Cup of Deadly Cheer e The Sun Was the Beginning of the Morning.

New work by the master John Hamper, the king of Medway Beat. Supported by ther Musicians of the Briths Empire and Neil Palmer from the Fire Dept (another) great MedwayBand. Despite the sound that sorta steers away from his body of work, we can still rely on the raw garage punk that made him famous and can be found only in the Medway river delta. Highlights to the wild Like Poets Often Do, with a strong early Who influence, Grandfathery and it's amazing lyrics (a strong point on this album, as the band's name suggests) and the last two songs, A Cup of Deadly Cheer and The Sun Was the Beginning of the Morning.

Beleza, esse disco é muito bom, o mais puro medway beat, na linha do Kravin A's. Consegui averiguar que o disco é de 1986, possivelmente lançamento da Big Beat. Não achei maiores informações, sei que eles gravaram mais um disco sob o nome Dodson's Dogs e que o cover de Get Youself Together é um dos meus favoritos.

Alright, this album is very nice, the purest medway beat in a Kravin A's sort of way. I've only discovered that this album is from 1986, possible Big Beat release. Couldn't find bigger info besides another released under the moniker Dodson's Dogs and that the Get Yourself Together Cover in it is one of my favourites.

Antes de mais nada, vou postar o que li no last.fm :

Pois é, Mick Hampshire, Bruce Brand e John Gibbs mostram a que vieram nesse disco, recheado do mais puro trash beat que só os habitantes de Medway sabem fazer. Faixas como Hey Big Mouth e Here I Come são puro Bo Diddley revival, os instrumentais fazem honra ao mestre Link Wray e mesmo músicas mais calmas como a quase garage polka (!?) Down Among the Dead Men ou a balada Why Should I Care, com seu clima merseybeat malvado mostram lições que deveriam ser ensinadas a milhões de bandinhas por aí. Um disco muito divertido, altamente recomendado.

That's it, Mick Hampshir, Bruce Brand and John Gibbs show what they're here for in this album, filled with the purest trash beat that only the Medway people can do. Tracks like Hey Big Mouth and Here I Come are pure Bo Diddley revival, the instrumentals pay tribute to the great master Link Wray and even slower songs as the nearly garage polka (!?) Down Among the Dead Men or the ballad Why Should I Care, with it's mean merseybeat mood show lessons that millions of bands should be learning. An extremely funny and recommended record.

Mais um dos gênios de Medway, a música deste senhor pode ser chamada sem erro nenhum de Medway delta blues, tão punk e lo-fi quanto blues pode ser. Tendo colaborado com Billy Childish e Holly Golightly em dois discos muito interessantes (Devil in the Flesh e Painted On, respectivamente), fui procurar algum álbum solo do cara e descobri que ele é muito melhor 'jogando' sozinho ou com sua banda, a Broken Revue. Destaque pra todas as faixas, com um carinho especial pra Either Side, Ridiculous Man, This is not the Medway Sound e Natural Misanthrope (sempre dando atenção às letras neuróticas do cara). Baixem agora!

Another Medway genius, his music can be described without a doubt as Medway delta blues, being as punk and lo-fi as blues can be. Having collaborated with Billy Childish (Devil in the Flesh) and Holly Golightly (Painted On) in the past, I went to search for his solo efforts and found out that he's much better when playing on himself or with his Broken Revue. Highlights go to Eithr Side, Ridiculous Man, This is not the Medway Sound and Natural Misanthrope (never forget paying attention to his twisted neurotical lyrics). Get it now!

Thee Milkshakes - Thee Knights of Trashe

Continuando com o trash-tour pour Medway, aqui vai um dos maiores clássicos da história do garage punk na minha humilde opinião, Thee Kngiths of Trashe. O disco já abre com uma das melhores composições do mestre Childish, I'll use Evil, e segue com porrada atrás de porrada, pelos homens com guitarras douradas. Por algum motivo que eu não consegui descobrir qual é, essa pérola nunca foi relançada e cópias físicas parecem ser raras (o único que eu achei no ebay sai pela bagatela de 40 libras), então baixem e se deliciem com essa maravilha esquecida pelo tempo.

Continuing with the Medway trash-tour, here's one of my favourite albums and one of garage punk's biggest classics in my opinion, Thee Knights of Trashe, by the Milkshakes. The album starts with one of master Childish's better compositions, I'll use Evil, and goes on with smash after smash, by the men with golden guitars. For some unexplained reason, this gem never got re-released and physical copies of it seem to be rare (the only one I've found on ebay costs 40 british pounds), so, download it and enjoy this time-forgotten wonder.

Mais uma gema da delta do rio Medway, esse disco parece o filho dos Prisoners e sua viagem pela swinging London com os Headcoats e sua crueza. Não achei muita informação sobre a banda além das que estão na partee de trás da capa do vinil (incluída no zip), mas o download desse disco é altamente necessário, em minha humilde opinião.

Anoter Medway delta gem, this album looks like the son of the Prisoners and their swinging London trip with the Headcoats raw garage punk. I haven't found too much info about the band besides the one on the counter-sleeve of the album (included on the zip), but the download of that album is higlhy neccessary, in my humble opinion.

The Squares - Tribute to the Medway Scene

Não achei muita informação sobre a banda, sei que eles são franceses, seguidores fiéis de Billy 'Deus' Childish e outras bandas de Medway (dá pra perceber pelo nome, hurr durr durr), chegando a lançar discos pela Hangman Records (gravadora do Childish). Não sei quando a banda acabou também, sei que o baterista, Ollie Dollot, chegou a tocar bateria pros Headcoats por um tempo e que eles apareceram em algumas coletâneas francesas do fim dos anos 80/começo dos 90. Altamente recomendável (e relativamente desconhecido, se isso significa alguma coisa pra você).

I haven't found too many info about the band, though I know they're french, loyal followers of Billy 'God' Childish and other Medway delta bands (that's kinda obvious, just look at the album's title hurr durr durr). They even released some stuff through Hangman Records (Childish's old label). I don't know when they started or broke up, but I know that Ollie Dollot (the drummer) went to play with thee Headcoats for some time and that they appeared in a few french comps from the early 80s/late 90s. Extremely recommendable (and kinda unknown, if that means something to you)

Thee Headcoatees - Punk girls

As Headcoatees são um grupo de garotas montado pelo senhor Billy Childish, composto por Kyra LaRubia, Holly Golightly, Bongo Debbie e Miss Ludella Black. A 'banda de apoio' são os próprios Headcoats e o repertório é composto basicamente de belas canções do tio Billy e vários covers dos anos 50 e 60 (e um cover de Teenage Kicks dos Undertones, excelente). Destaque pra Don't Wanna hold your Hand, Billy B. Childish, Punk Girl e Zig-Zag.

Graham Day & the Gaolers - Soundtrack to the Daily Grind

Graham Day, multiinstrumentista de Medway, não é menino novo. Membro fundador dos Prisoners, já tocou com Billy Childish nos Buff Medways (baixo) e Mighty Caesars (bateria e eventuais flautas e teclados), além de ter fundado outras bandas excelentes, como Solarflares e Prime Movers. Em 2006, depois dos Buff Medways terem se separado, Dan Elektro e Buzz Hagstrom dos Woggles se juntaram a mr. Day e John Barker (que tocou bateria pros Buffs por um tempo) e eles montaram os Gaolers. O primeiro single (Get off my Track) já mostrou o que a banda pretendia. Freakbeat. Com um riff diretamente saindo da Swingin' London, Graham mostrou que o tempo não o amoleceu. É basicamente isso que se encontra nesse disco excelente, freakbeat, garage e psych de primeira, com eventuais trompetes marotos e cítaras tocados por Day. Eles já lançaram outro disco esse ano, que infelizmente eu ainda não achei pra baixar nem tive grana pra comprar, se alguém souber onde eu posso achar, eu ficaria feliz se me avisassem, obrigado.
