Creation - We are Paintermen

Banda inglesa de freakbeat, o Creation deveria ter sido maior, mas, como várias outras bandas da época, algum motivo obscuro e inexplicável impediu que os caras fossem pra frente, apesar do hit Painter Man (depois gravado pelo Boney M, por algum motivo que eu desconheço). O som da banda, como dito acima, é bem freakbeat, com ecos de Kinks, Who e Yardbirds em todo lado. Destaques ficam pra Can I Join your Band, Makin' Time, Biff Bang Pow! e Painter Man (detalhe que nessa música, o guitarrista Eddie Phillips usou um arco de violino pra tocar guitarra pela primeira vez que se tem registro, provando mais uma vez que Jimmy Page não é o deus que dizem por aí).

This english freakbat band should've been bigger, but, as a ton of other bands of the era, they never made it big for some obscure and unexplainable reason, despite their hit "Painter Man" (later recorded by Boney M, for some unknown reason to me). Their sound, as said above, is very freakbeat, with echoes from the Who, the Kinks and the Yardbirds everywhere. Highlights go to Can I Join Your Band, Makin' Time, Biff Bang Pow! and Painter Man (note that their guitarist Eddie Phillips plays with a violin bow on this one, being that the first register of that being made, again, proving that Jimmy Page isn't the guitar god they've been saying).

The Real Kids - The Real Kids

Formado em 1972 por John Felice, ex-guitarrista dos fabulosos Modern Loves, o som dos Real Kids é algo entre os Ramones e os Flamin' Groovies, powerpop/punk rock de qualidade altíssima. Esse primeiro disco foi lançado em 1978 e apesar de não ter vendido na época, é considerado um clássico (justificado) hoje em dia. Do rockabilly de All Kindsa Girls até a quase MC5 Reggae Reggae, nenhuma faixa no disco desaponta, com destaque pras duas faixas já citadas, o boogie punk de Do the Boob e o excelente cover de My Way do Eddie Cochran (um clássico subestimado). Em tempos de sintetizadores e calças coloridas, é sempre bom lembrar o que é powerpop DE VERDADE.

Formed in 1972 by John Felice, ex-guitarist of the equally fabulous Modern Loves, the sound of the Real Kids stays between the Ramones and the Flamin' Groovies, powerpop / punk rock of the highest quality. Their debut album was released in 1978, and despite the poor sales, it's now regarded as a (justified classic). From the rockabilly of All Kindsa Girls to the nearly MC5 Reggae Reggae, there's not letdown in this album, with highlights going to the above mentioned tracks, the punk boogie of Do the Boob and the excellent cover of My Way, by Eddie Cochran (an underrated classic). In times of coloured trousers and synthethizers, it's always nice to remember what's REAL powerpop.
