Texas Flashbacks 1-2

Série de coletâneas antológica de 6 LPs, lançada por Dave Shutt em 1982-83, todos com prensagens limitadíssimas contendo várias raridades da cena texana de 60s punk, não tem nem como escolher as melhores, já que 99% das faixas é pura insanidade garageira. Vou postar os 6 volumes no decorrer da semana, até lá, apreciem essas maravilhas esquecidas pelo tempo.

Anthological comp of 6 LPs released by Dave Shutt around 82/83, all of them with very limited pressings filled with 60s punk rarities from Texas, I think it's impossible to pick my favourite tracks, since 99% of the tracks are pure 60s garage dementia. Creation - We are Paintermen

Banda inglesa de freakbeat, o Creation deveria ter sido maior, mas, como várias outras bandas da época, algum motivo obscuro e inexplicável impediu que os caras fossem pra frente, apesar do hit Painter Man (depois gravado pelo Boney M, por algum motivo que eu desconheço). O som da banda, como dito acima, é bem freakbeat, com ecos de Kinks, Who e Yardbirds em todo lado. Destaques ficam pra Can I Join your Band, Makin' Time, Biff Bang Pow! e Painter Man (detalhe que nessa música, o guitarrista Eddie Phillips usou um arco de violino pra tocar guitarra pela primeira vez que se tem registro, provando mais uma vez que Jimmy Page não é o deus que dizem por aí).

This english freakbat band should've been bigger, but, as a ton of other bands of the era, they never made it big for some obscure and unexplainable reason, despite their hit "Painter Man" (later recorded by Boney M, for some unknown reason to me). Their sound, as said above, is very freakbeat, with echoes from the Who, the Kinks and the Yardbirds everywhere. Highlights go to Can I Join Your Band, Makin' Time, Biff Bang Pow! and Painter Man (note that their guitarist Eddie Phillips plays with a violin bow on this one, being that the first register of that being made, again, proving that Jimmy Page isn't the guitar god they've been saying).

Banda de Tacoma, Washington, influência pros Sonics (aliás, eles gravaram seus dois primeiros discos no selo dos Wailers), muito boa, já dá pra ver a fundação pra bandas como os Kingsmen e outras bandas do meio-oeste americano.

Um belo dia, me recomendaram essa coletânea via slsk dizendo "é o paraíso lo-fi, me lembrou a sensação de ter ouvido o Back from the Grave pela primeira vez", e eu não posso desmentir tal afirmação de forma alguma. Lançada esse ano pela Norton, não vi nenhuma das pérolas da coletânea lançadas aqui em nenhuma outra comp, e faixas como Yesterday we Laghed dos Cirkits e She Won't come Back do Hayze não podem, de forma alguma, faltar na coleção de nenhum lobisomem adolescente ou homens e mulheres da caverna. Destaques pras duas músicas já citadas, The Thorns - Want You, Hidden Charms - The Hill, The Night Crawlers - Want Me, a versão demente de Fire de Jimi Hendrix pelos Vampires, The Henchmen - Get Off My Back e minha nova favorita, Khuns - Hey Baby, pura demência garageira!

It was a beautiful day, and someone recommended me this comp via slsk saying "it's Lo-fi heaven, it's like listening to Back from the Grave for the first time again", and I can't deny such affirmative. Released this year by Norton, I've never seen none of these tracks in any other comp, and tracks like Yesterday We Laughed by the Cirkits and She Won't Come Back by the Hayze are essentials in any teenage werewolf and cavemen and cavegirls collection. Highlitghts for the aforementioned tracks. The Thorns - Want You, Hidden Charms - The Hill, The Night Crawlers - Want Me, the demented version of Fire de Jimi Hendrix pelos Vampires, The Henchmen - Get Off My Back and my new garage favourite, Khuns - Hey Baby, pure garage punk insanity!

Screaming Lord Sutch & the Savages

Screaming Lord Sutch é mais um dos gênios não reconhecidos da história do rock. Apesar de seu rockabilly / garage maníaco, suas letras cheias de zumbis e assassinos e seus amigos importantes (Keith Moon, Jimmy Page e não sei mais quem), pouca gente conhece o trabalho deste senhor completamente insano. Não consegui achar informação sobre o disco que vou postar, quanto mais a capa, a discografia do cara é muito confusa, mas aparentemente é uma coletânea. Destaque pra todas as músicas, mas principalmente pra versão original de Jack the Ripper, que todos que visitam o blog provavelmente já conhecem com outras bandas.

Screaming Lord Sutch is another unrecognized rock'n'roll genius. Despite his frantic rockabilly / garage rock sound, his lyrics driven by zombies and killers and his important friends (Keith Moon, Jimmy Page and lots of other people), most people never heard of this utterly insane gentleman. I couldn't find bigger info about this album, his discography is a mess and little info is availabe. Every song is a gem, but the highlight is the original version of Jack the Ripper, that most visitors of this blog must have heard with another bands.

Delicuentes - Jovenes Punks de America Latina

Coletânea de bandas da América Latina excelente, apesar da ausência de bandas brasileiras, esse disco ganha de outras coletâneas (na minha opinião) pelo fato da maioria das faixas não puxar muito pra surf music ou psicodelia do começo, apesar de ambos estarem presentes. Destaque pra primeira faixa do disco, Delicuente dos Hitters, que dá nome à coletânea, às faixas dos Yorks (aliás, alguém saberia me informar se existe mais alguma coisa deles?), Los Yaki - Las Estatuas de Marfil, The Speakers - Glendora e Los Ovnis - Ya Se (ah, o tecladinho!). Baixem agora!

Interessante notar que os Beat Boys estão listados como brasileiros no encarte do disco, apesar de serem argentinos (provavelmente, o pessoal que fez não conseguiu achar informações sobre a banda, só o que tinha no selo do disco).

Excelent latin american compilation, despite the lack of brasillian bands (for those who don't know, the blog staff is brasillian). This comp beats others (in my opinion) because most of it's tracks aren't psych or surf oriented, besides the fact that you can find both between the songs. The highlights are the first track, Delicuentes, by los Hitters, who names the comp, all the Yorks tracks (by the way, can someone tell me if there's anything else by them around?), Los Yaki - Las Estatuas de Marfil, The Speakers - Glendora and Los Ovnis - ya Se (manic organ!). Download it now!

Interesting to note that the Beat Boys are marked as brasillian on the back of the album, despite the fact that they're argentins (this is explainable, since the band moved to Brasil to back singer Caetano Veloso and released some EPs and an LP, and since the curators of the comp couldn't find any extra information on the band, they just followed what they read in the disc label).

Até onde eu sei, isso é raro pra caralho, arrumei num site excelente, o www.garagehangover.com. Se trata de uma banda de Bermuda (acho que a única que eu conheço). Apesar de não ser aquela parada agressiva e gritada das bandas americanas, é interessante notar que a maioria das faixas do disco é de autoria dos caras da banda, incluindo um dos meus sons favoritos do garage punk original, The World ain't Round, It's Square. Divirtam-se, rapazes e garotas.

Terceiro disco da série, no mesmo esquema do anterior, só que com menos sons 'manjados' e bandas mais puxadas pro começo da psicodelia, ao invés dos sons mais R&B das anteriores, dá uma recuperada boa, ficando quase no mesmo nível que o vol. 01. Downliners Sect - The Sect

O Downliners Sect é uma banda inglesa de R&B, na linha de Pretty Things ou dos primeiros Stones. O grande diferencial é a crueza, deixando os caras pau a pau com as bandas de garage americanas. Isso e o chapéu de Sherlock do vocalista Don Craine, pai espiritual dos Headcoats (que por sinal, juntaram com o Sect por um tempo, formaram o Headcoat Sect e gravaram um dos melhores discos da carreira de ambas as bandas). Essa auto-definição dos Shadows of Knight é perfeita, e é exatamente isso que se ouve nesse álbum, várias regravações excelentes de blues da Cidade dos Ventos (I got my Mojo Working, do mestre Muddy, Oh Yeah, de Bo Diddley, aqui na versão dos Yardbirds e Spoonful, de Willie Dixon), dentre outros clássicos, além de um Rave Up excelente de Gloria, clássico mor da banda. Muita gente por aí acha que os SoK eram só Gloria e o cover de Oh Yeah, mas, pra mim, eles ficam pau a pau com várias bandas da british invasion. Destaque pra Everybody Needs Somebody to Love, Don't Fight it (Feel It) e I Got my Mojo Working.

Lançaram 6 singles (e nenhum EP) entre '65 e '66, e essa é uma compilação e reedição dos próprios, lançada em por volta de 1999.

Swamp Rats - Disco Still Sucks!

Uma das bandas mais psicóticas dos anos 60, conseguiram pegar uma música selvagem (Psycho, dos Sonics) e deixá-la mais garageira ainda. Destaque pra uma das melhores versões (se não A melhor) de Louie Louie que eu ouvi (Ignorem as músicas mais lentinhas, nada é perfeito)

One of the most psycho bands from the 60s, these guys got a wild song (Psycho, by the Sonics) and left it even more raw. Highlits for one of the best (if not THE best) version of Louie Louie I've ever heard (ignore the slow tracks, nothing's perfect)
